Udupi: Three Drowning Students Saved by Local Divers

Udupi, Sep 30: A few local youth jumped into the sea and saved three students, who were drowning after attempting to swim in the choppy sea waters near Kaup light house, on the evening of Sunday September 28.

Manipal Institute of Technology students Mithun, Harish and Achuth had come to the beach for fun and were swimming in the sea, overlooking the warnings of the local people. As they were dragged away into the sea and about to be drowned, those on the shore raised a din, following which local youth Ganesh, Vinod, Indrajit and Jaya jumped into the sea and saved the students. The youth came in for profuse appreciation by the general public and the police.

The beaches in the twin-districts are proving to be death traps, and the demand of the people to appoint expert divers at the popular beaches apart from arranging to provide life jackets, have fallen on deaf ears.
