Mangaluru, Sep 10: Kavoor police, who raided a godown located at Manjalpade near Bondel on September 7 by a team led by Kavoor police inspector, K R Naik, arrested an accused and confiscated rice and wheat meant for public distribution that was reportedly stored without authorization.

The arrested man happens to be Mobirul (21) from Assam.

The raid was conducted based on reliable information that rice and wheat had been stocked in a godown at Manjalpade without authorization. The police found rice, wheat and other items which were illegally stored in the godown. The worth of the goods so seized has been put at Rs 17,24,500. This includes rice and wheat worth Rs 8.20 lac and lorry and pick-up vehicles.

The food officials had complained to Kavoor police about this illegal activity.

Food Shirastedar at the taluk office here, Kasturi, and other officials verified the godown and found that rice and wheat meant for public distribution was being hoarded in the said godown before re-packing them. 290 quintals of rice found stored inside the godown and three other vehicles, and nine quintals of wheat were taken into possession. It is said that these items which were meant for public distribution system and minorities hostels, were illegally being shifted elsewhere.

Kavoor police inspector, KR Naik, and staff were guided by city police commissioner, T R Suresh, deputy police commissioner, Uma Prashanth, and city (north) subdivision assistant commissioner of police, Rajendra D S in this operation.
