Sullia, Sep 10: BJP MLA and former minister, Suresh Kumar, felt that Shiradi Ghat stretch of national highway 75 has been kept closed unnecessarily, duly pointing out that road work is not in progress anywhere on this road. Expressing the opinion that this is a conspiracy, he pledged to bring this matter to the notice of the government and to raise questions.

Kumar went by foot from Sakleshpur to Goddess Chowdeshwarti temple in Gundia by national highway and also through railway tracks on Saturday. He stayed for the night at Dharmasthala, and paid obeisance to Lord Subrahmanya at Subrahmanya on Sunday. He provided his experiences during his walk.

Kumar said that during his walk from 8.45 am to 5.45 pm, he did not notice any road work on the way. "Only minor urgent repair is needed at seven or eight places where road has suffered some landslide. Work has been conducted on a small scale at these places. The state government and district administration, which have failed to throb to the feelings of the people, have unnecessarily kept the road closed and playing with the day-today lives of the people, he noted.

The MLA said that he had spoken to many school children, roadside merchants etc and understood the travails they have gone through during the bandh period lasting over eight months. The students had to stay away from school as no transportation was available. People were in lot of problems as no vehicles were available even for emergencies. No people's representatives and officials showed concerns for their problems, he explained.

He said he had walked through the railway line between Yedakumeri to Subrahmanya Road and that work of removing heaps of mud fallen on tracks is progressing at a rapid pace.

BJP leader from Subrahmanya, Sreekumar, and others were present.
