Kundapur, Sep 11: The Congress and opposition parties lead Bund on September 10 received good response in Kundapur. Private and government buses did not ply. Riksha and other rental vehicles supported bund. But vehicles supported by BJP plied as usual.
Schools and colleges remained closed. Though government offices were open, people were less. Commercial banks opened for business after 11.30 am. Hospitals were open but visitors to outpatient department and visitors to patients were few.
BJP activists warned against forced bund of a shop neat Venkataramana temple. Congress and JDS activists had requested in a procession this morning to close shops and offices. But BJP activists had objected to forced closures and got few shops kept open.
Mixed response in outskirts
Though the response was good in the town, it was mixed in the villages. Though there were no buses and the schools were closed in Koteshwar, Basrur, Hangaluru etc., life was normal.
Police keep a close watch
Kundapur sub division DySP B P Dinesh Kumar and his team kept a close watch to prevent untoward incidents. Kundapur block congress committee president Malyadi Shivarama Shetty and other party leaders took part in the protests.
BJP activists have expressed anguish alleging that Congress has got shops and banks closed by force. There were arguments about it between the police and BJP activists. DySP Dinesh Kumar diluted the situation.
