Rodriguez fires Atletico Tucuman to Superliga summit

Buenos Aires, Sep 15 (IANS): Veteran forward Luis Rodriguez scored a hat-trick as Atletico Tucuman rose to the top of the Superliga Argentina standings with a 3-0 home victory over fellow Argentine football club Tigre.

Rodriguez struck in the eighth minute with a delightful chip over goalkeeper Augusto Batalla after a counter-attack. He then made it 2-0 from the penalty spot after being brought down by Ignacio Canuto here on Friday, reports Xinhua news agency.

The 33-year-old, who earned a sole Argentina cap in 2009, struck his third goal with a sublime volley into the top left corner after a failed clearance.

The result at the Monumental stadium lifted Atletico to 11 points from five matches, one point ahead of second-placed Racing Club, who have a game in hand.

In Friday's only other match, Matias Pisano and Cristian Chavez netted second-half goals as Aldosivi jumped to fourth in the 26-team standings with a 2-0 win at Estudiantes.
