Bangalore, Oct 31: In an interesting development, a 80-year-old housewife named Lakshmi, has lodged a complaint of dowry harassment against her husband Varadaraj who is 85 years old. The case is now being investigated by the Rajajinagar police here. Initially, the policemen were reluctant to entertain the woman's complaint under section  498(a) pertaining to dowry harassment, but a court ordered them to register the case after the woman approached the court with a private complaint.

Lakshmi, who was married 53 years ago, says that her husband married a second time. He used to live with his second wife Chandrakanta and two sons got through her, named Jawaharlal and Vishweshwara. The woman says, she was beaten up and threatened by the foursome. "After the second marriage, my husband started harassing me. He registered his property in the names of the children of his second wife. When I resisted, I was insulted and assaulted. He posed me life threat. I was seriously injured and got admitted into Victorial Hospital in June this year," the lady narrated.

After Lakshmi lodged her complaint, all the four accused are absconding, say the police. The policemen are now on the look out for Varadaraj, his second wife and their two children. Lakshmi lives on her own in Rajajinagar.
