Mangalore, Nov 19: The officials of the fisheries department took into possession two fishing boats from Kerala and the staff manning them, after they violated rules and entered the dock here, through the fisheries port, on Tuesday November 17. This action was taken, on a complaint filed by the Mangalore Trawl Boat Fishermen’s Association. They were later handed over to the Pandeshwar police for further action.
The policemen who interrogated the fishermen said that the fishermen confessed that they were compelled to enter Mangalore port as their boats developed snags at deep sea. They also said that they had no other alternative but to sell their fish they had caught, for repairing their boats.
The policemen also informed that the boats returned to Kerala after getting the boats repaired. It may be recalled that the district administration, through a recent order, has banned fishing boats from other states entering the fisheries port here.
