Davanagere: Car intercepted - silver, silverware, worth Rs 60 lac robbed

Davanagere, Dec 31: Five miscreants waylaid the car of a silver merchant in the wee hours on Saturday December 30, and robbed two persons of silver and silver articles totally valued at Rs 60 lac.

The car belonged to Jagannath Khandekar, silver dealer from Salem, Tamil Nadu. He was carrying 300 kg unprocessed silver and processed silver, apart from silver anklets and others from Kolhapur in Maharashtra to Chennai when the robbery took place.

District superintendent of police, R Chetan, said that two teams have been formed to nab the culprits. He exuded confidence of being able to arrest the culprits shortly.
