Mangaluru: Illegal sand extraction - police arrest two, seize three tipper trucks

Mangaluru, Jan 2: Policemen raided a spot on Falguni river bank on Tannirbavi main road at Panambur here on December 31 night and found that sand was being extracted and illegally loaded into tipper trucks. They arrested two persons and took three tipper trucks into possession.

When assistant commissioner of police of city north subdivision, R Srinivas Gowda, was in the night rounds, particularly to handle disturbances by people celebrating New Year, he found that sand was being loaded into the tipper trucks. He raided the spot and subjected the arrested persons to questioning. They told the police that the sand dock belonged to a person named Ramachandra.



The persons arrested in this connection were Kanakappa (32) from Kemthoor village who was the driver of the truck, and Ganesh G Shettigar (26), resident of Katipalla third block here. Ganesh used to manage transactions at the sand dock there.

The raid was supported by Panambur station police inspector, Rafiq K , police sub inspector, Umesh Kumar M N and staff of Panambur police station.
