Bengaluru, Jan 3: People of Karnataka have welcomed New Year in grandeur. The huge sale of liquor has indicated the same. Nearly Rs 70 crore worth Indian liquor and beer was sold in large amount.

As per Excise department officials, there has been an increase of 10% income when compared to last year.

There are nearly 10,400 liquor outlets in the state. As per excise department statistics, 3.83 lac cases of Indian made foreign liquor and 1.48 lac beer cases are sold. 1.75 lac cases liquor and 60,000 beer cases are usually sold on other days.

The price of liquor has increased this year. But there is no decrease in customers. Therefore, the department has earned more. The estimate in the current financial year is Rs 19,750 crore. It has crossed fifteen thousand crore at the end of December. It hopes to reach the goal in the next three months, say the officials.

“The state government has increased the price of a few liquor products by 8%. The coalition government has increased the price of 18 liquor products by another 4%. Therefore, the excise department income will increase,” said Excise department commissioner V Yashwant.
