Kundapur, Jan 4: Kedoor gram panchayat held a cattle fair on January 2. More than 80 breeds of cows and calves were seen at the fair. The fair was held at Kedoor gram panchayat office premises by Udupi zilla panchayat, department of animal husbandry, Udupi district veterinary science service department, Kedoor milk producer’s cooperative society, Kedoor gram panchayat, Koteshwar agriculture service cooperative society, Lakshmi Feeds Mandarthi and Sarvodaya Agencies Udupi.

Zilla panchayat member Srilatha Suresh Shetty who inaugurated the programme said that programmes such as this will encourage dairy farmers and agriculturists. “Young people should be encouraged to indulge in such activities. Families who depend on dairy farming should be provided information and awareness to make it more profitable,” she said.

“Starting a dairy in the nineties was difficult. There is now a revolution that more and more people make dairy farming their profession. It is a symbol of development in our village,” said former taluk panchayat member Kedoor Sadananda Shetty.

Sharath Kumar Hegde, Kedoor gram panchayat former president Sampath Kumar Shetty Shanady, gram panchayat member Prashanth Shetty Ulthoor, Sampavathi, Vinod, milk producer’s society president Sarvotham Shetty and judges were present. Gram panchayat president Bhujanga Shetty presided over the programme.

More than 80 breeds of cattle from different villages took part. Shahid Mansoor Gulladi bagged championship breed prize for HF breed. Ramachandra Bhat Shanadi won first prize in Jersey breed, Sathish Kamath won second prize.

In local breed, Rajendra Shetty Beloor won first prize, Ramakrishna Bayari Beloor won second prize. Among calves, Sushila Somayaji won first prize and Basava Shetty second prize. Shivaram Poojary received a prize for special breed.

Kundapur taluk animal husbandry department deputy director Dr Suryanarayan Upadhyaya welcomed everyone and delivered an introductory address. Ulthoor milk producer’s cooperative society executive Pratap Shetty Ulthoor, Kedur veterinary clinic officer Dr Niranjan Murthy proposed the vote of thanks.
