Kasargod: Smuggling through Kannur airport - gold worth Rs 25 lac seized

Kasargod, Jan 8: Officials of air customs department succeeded in taking into possession gold worth about Rs 25 lac when an attempt was being made to smuggle the same into India on Monday January 7.

N K Jamshir from Tamarassery stands arrested in this connection. Jamshir had arrived at Kannur from Riyadh. During the verification of his bag, 750 grams of gold worth Rs 25 lacs was recovered.

This is the second case of smuggling detected by customs officials in a month since the international airport at Kannur was inaugurated on December 9.
