Udupi: Hit by motor bike, pedestrian loses life

Udupi, Jan 9: A senior citizen walking by the side of the road suffered serious injuries and lost his life after a motor bike knocked him down. The incident happened on Monday at Madhuvana, Achlady village near Kota in the taluk.

The deceased has been identified as Sankayya Shetty (90), resident of Kogaleri House, Achlady. He was returning home after visiting Madhuvana downtown by the district main road when a motor bike that was being driven towards Sabibrakatte from Vaddarse hit him forcefully. Shetty, who suffered serious injuries, was admitted into a hospital at Manipal.

However, Sankayya's life could not be saved. He is survived by wife, five sons and two daughters. In the accident, bike rider, Vighnesh, and pillion rider, Arun, both from Vaddarse, too were injured. A case about the accident was filed in Kota police station.

It is gathered that Sankayya was agile and admirably fit even at this age. He used to walk about five kilometres everyday to the nearest town and back. He was loved by people in the village as he mingled with them freely.
