Udupi: Movie on awareness of child marriage to be screened from Jan 21 to 23

Udupi, Jan 10: 'Sandigdha', a movie that creates awareness on child marriage, atrocities on children and the rights of children, among the high school students,will be screened in all the seven film theatres of the district from January 21 to 23. This information was given by Dr Vanita Toravi, member of Karnataka State Commission for Protection of Child Rights (KSCPCR).

Dr Vanita was speaking at the meeting that was held in the auditorium of DC office at Rajatadri in the city on Wednesday, January 9.



Dr Vanita Toravi said, "KSCPCR has organized the screening of the movie 'Sandigdha' in various districts of the state in order to create awareness among the children on child marriage, atrocities on children and the protection of their rights. The commission is also getting the reaction from the students who have watched the movie and it is heartening to note that many of them are now aware of the abuses that are being carried out on them. So it is decided to hold the screening of the movie in the district of Udupi also and accordingly the movie will be screened every day at 9 am from January 21 to 23. The owners of the movie theatres in the district have agreed for this and the department of education will make arrangements to bring students to the movie theatres."

Various programmes in the district by KSCPCR

Dr Vanita Toravi further said that various programmes will be held in the district of Udupi by KSCPCR

"Under the programme of upgradation and awareness of government schools, the inauguration of old student association in taluk level government schools of the district will be done. At the district level, under the programme 'Na Kalita Shaleya Teerisuve Runava', old students of every government schools will be invited and discussion will be done regarding the responsibilities and duties of the association. The aim of the programme is to upgrade the quality, number of students and the growth of Kannada language in government schools," said Dr Vanita Toravi.

Dr Anita Toravi further said, "Under the programme 'Makkala Snehi Madhyama', a workshop will be conducted for all the print and visual media friends about the act of rights of children. In addition, a huge rally will be held by students of Law colleges, journalism education institutions and MSW students to create awareness on the rights of children. In this rally the actors and children who have acted in the movie 'Sandighda' will also take part."
