Mangalore: Two-day National Seminar in English Literature Inaugurated at SAC

Mangalore Jan 10:  The subaltern in the Indian English literature and translation is found only as a marker and has attained the status of a metaphor, opined Prof Rajendra Chenni, department of English, Kuvempu University Shimoga.

He spoke at the inaugural ceremony of the two-day  national  seminar on ‘Subaltern Encounters in Indian literature in English and translation’   organized  by the department  of English in St  Aloysius  college at its IT block auditorium on Friday January 9.


















`The subaltern is political analysis and the paradoxical situation in Indian literature. In  English, it  has  become creative  violence for the  reader,’  he  cited   Kannada  novels that originate and depict the life of the  state's people  including those on dalit and rural culture will face critical examination while  translating, he explained.
      
Prof Dasan, department of English, Kannur University, delivered key note address on the subject.

Prof A. Louduswamy, head of the department and convener of  the programme  welcomed the participants. Fr Francis Serrao SJ, Rector of St Aloysius Institutions and principal Fr Swebert D’silva SJ, Organizing secretary Alwyn D’sa were present.
