Udupi: 'Selfishness in Society Violating Humanitarian Values' - Judge Phanindra

Udupi, Jan 12: District and sessions judge K M Phanindra said, that the greed and  selfishness prominently found in the present-day society is encroaching upon the humanitarian values and destroying it. The social welfare organizations which are actively pursuing the goal of social good should strive to achieve their goals inspite of the selfishness they might encounter, he advised. He was speaking after releasing the Forsters Diary - 2009, at a function organized on Sunday January 11 at Hotel Kidiyoor here, jointly by the forest department and Kundapur Range Foresters Association, to felicitate retired foresters and distribute prizes to the winners of the inter-district painting competition organized by the Association.

Chief forest conservator and chief project director B Shivana Gowda inaugurated the programme in the  morning. 



Distinguished personalities who have been contributing  their mite for the social service, like eminent Ayurveda practitioner of Kundapura Dr Karunakaran Nambiar, Alvas College of Social Work handicapped MSW student Sabita Monis who writes with her legs as she does not have hands, social activist U Surya Sherigar and ETV 'Yede Tumbi Haduvenu 2008' contest winner Deeksha Ramakrishna were felicitated by district chief civil judge J M Ramachandraiah, on the occasion..

Kundapur Range Foresters' Association president J M Yogishwar presided over the programme and delivered the introductory speech. Kundapur deputy forest conservator O Palaiah distributed blood donation certificates to the donors. Kudremukh Wild Life assistant forest conservator Gabriel Veigas handed over  prizes to the winners of painting competitions.

District Co-Operative Union president Subramanya Sherigar, state Foresters Association honorary president K Lingappa and chief secretary Alesh Kumar were present at the function.. Association general  secretary Madhusudan welcomed the gathering.  Adve Ravindra Kumar compered the programme.

    In fact, Judge Phanindra is very kind. Selfishness is the root cause of inhumanity and many forms of evil in our Society, which seems to have 'suddenly-acquired -monetary-wealth' on a large scale - judging from their transformation from a predominantly saving, to a predominantly spending Society. The Indian and Chinese Societies are probably the most selfish (when they have wealth). Yet, all things being equal, it would not surprise me that we are the least patriotic in private.
