Karkala, Jan 15: The aquarium placed at Alvas Virasat in Shobhavana has attracted large number of eager onlookers. It has attained a new milestone by erasing all the earlier records for the largest aquariums in the country and succeeded in gaining entry into the Limca Book of Records in their place.

The aquarium which cost  Rs 7.50 lac is said to be the largest aquarium in the country with a  length of 31.5 feet, height of five feet and width of 3.5 feet. The earlier record was held by the 26 feet long aquarium located in the Inorbit Mall Mumbai.

The aquarium displayed during Alva's Virasat contained 600 fishes which cost from around  Rs 1,000 up to Rs 15, 000. Around 1000 fishes were brought from Chennai for feeding the large fishes.

The large fishes like 'Aruvan' from Amazon and 'Bloodred Parrot' fishes from China were the centres of attraction of the aquarium.

Whereas the fishes like Pirana, Koyi, shark, Takkar Cat, Walking Cat, Shavalnoze and Oscar were exhibited in the aquarium, various articles made from mud, stones and pebbles and show pieces placed inside the aquarium  added to its grandeur.
