Udupi: Posthumous 'Abhinava Bheeshma' Award for K K Pai

Udupi, Jan 29: The 'Abhinava Bheeshma' (modern-day Bheeshma, the grandsire of Mahabharat) award, conferred on the late K K Pai posthumously by Paryaya Sri Puttige Math here, was handed over by the Paryaya Swamiji Sri Sugunendrateertha to Dr Arvind Pai, eldest son of Pai, at a function held at the Rajangan of Sri Krishna Math here on Wednesday January 28.

"Kalsank Kamalaksha Pai, whose soul left his body during Uttarayana, the auspicious period when the gates to the heaven are said to be kept open, just like Bheeshma, was a great soul who always had the welfare of others on top of his agenda. He was a great personality, who perfectly balanced family life and spirituality. He was an epitome of humane attitude and good-hearted benevolence," Swamiji said. He recollected, that Pai had actively been involved in all the three Paryayas officiated by him.

Bharatiya Vikas Trust managing trustee K M Udupa paid rich tributes to the late K K Pai by reminiscing his ability to memorize names of each of the family members and ancestors of his friends and relatives. "He was an unparalleled banker who enabled over 3,000 families to earn their daily bread, by providing employment to one of their members," he said.

Dr Arvind Pai said that Pai had great affection towards his family and he equally worked for the welfare of the society. He expressed his gratitude to the Swamiji for recognizing the services of his illustrious father.

Pais's other son Suresh Pai, brother K C Pai and managing director of Manipal Media T Satish Pai were present.

Gopal Acharya of the Math welcomed. M G M College retired principal Prof M L Samaga presented the programme and proposed vote of thanks.
