Mangalore, Feb 4: Around 200 Anganawadi workers from Dakshina Kannada district will participate in the ‘Bangalore Chalo’ rally to be held on Thursday February 5, to draw the attention of the state government towards their various demands.

A total of 80,000 Anganawadi workers in the state are expected to participate in the rally, boycotting duty on the day.

Speaking to Daijiworld.com, Sukanya, secretary, district Anganawadi Workers’ Association, said that they have been deprived of an increment of Rs 500 which was implemented in April last year. The government has been lukewarm towards their problems, despite constant appeals.

“As many as 131 Anganawadi centres were already handed over to a private institution Sumangali Seva Trust. We oppose the privatization of the centres. We demand the administration appoint workers on a permanent basis,” she added.

Saying that the government has to introduce service regulations for workers, she said that workers also demand action against Child Development Programme officials in Hassan who allegedly sexually harassed an Anganawadi worker who later committed suicide.
