Puttur, Feb 14: Tension prevailed in the Jumma Masjid area in the town on the morning of Friday February 13, relating to the pasting of the wall posters of the Anti-terrorism Awareness Programme initiated by the state government made an appearance on the walls of the mosque. With the timely intervention of the police however, normalcy returned in the area a little while later.

A case has been registered with the town police station here, relating to pasting of the poster without obtaining the permission of the mosque administration. Those who gathered in front of the mosque to protest against the incident alleged that activists of Akhila Bharatiya Vidyarti Parishat had stuck the posters there.

Congress leaders Bondala Jagannat Shetty, Hemanath Shetty, M S Mohammed, MLC Anand etc., visited the spot and urged the police to book those who pasted the posters, thereby giving rise to unnecessary dispute, besides taking legal action against the concerned and arresting them.

Puttur town police inspector K Srikant who was present, informed them that a case had already been registered at his police station. He assured that necessary steps to arrest the culprits would be taken.

District Youth Congress president Bondala Jagannath Shetty warned the policemen that a dharna would be held in front of the police station if the policemen fail to act against the concerned. At one stage, heated words were exchanged between the policemen and the members of the public.

The policemen removed the controversial poster from the mosque wall.

Deliberately and intentionally pasted the poster to malign minority community to terrorize and drag them in to conflict. I condemn the irresponsible and cowardly acts of the fundamentals.
