Bantwal: Lineman on Duty Hit with Stones, Consumer Also Injured

Bantwal, Feb 19: In a strange case, a Mescom lineman named N Rajesh registrered a case against power consumers Sarojini and her son Priyaraj from Jakribettu near here. The accused also filed a case of assault against the lineman in question, in the town police station here.

The incident occurred on Wednesday February 18. While the consumers got admitted as in-patients, the lineman was treated in the out-patient department of Bantwal hospital.

Rajesh said he was instructed to cut-off power supply to the house of the accused, as the family had defaulted in payment of electricity bills. He said, stones were pelted at him when he had gone up the electricity pole to sever connection and was hit after he got down.

Rama Poojary, owner of the house said that the lineman assaulted his family members. Mescom said that it had ordered for disconnecting power supply to the house as bill payments were irregular and that its junior engineer and other staff had visited the spot for verification. Bantwal police are investigating.
