Mangalore, Mar 8: A lady and her daughter have been admitted to Wenlock Hospital after allegedly being beaten up by the police. The incident is said to have happened during the arrest of the lady’s husband Mohammad, in Suratkal.

Johra (38) and  Bushra (19) are currently undergoing treatment for their injuries. They reside in Suratkal near the Mescom office.

The police came knocking at their home at midnight on Saturday but were denied entry by the family. On Sunday noon, the police came again and arrested Mohammed.

The women claim that they plead with the police not to arrest Mohammed as he is innocent and not involved in any criminal activities.

Johra said that when they were thus pleading with the police, they were beaten with ‘lathis’.

Bushra, who is a student, said that the police were not in a mood to listen to them.

Mohammed is in police custody on charges of assaulting an individual along with three others.

When Daijiworld contacted the Suratkal police station, Ramesh, sub-inspector, said “We have not assaulted the ladies and their allegations are incorrect. We had been to their home to arrest Mohammad who is wanted in an assault case. In fact, the women interfered while we were doing our duty and we had to restrain them. It was not an assault of any kind.”

Ali Hasan, secretary, Muslim central committee, condemned the incident and urged the police to take strict action against the personnel who harassed the ladies.

Police in DK and rest of India too are not giving themselves a good name. I can believe they did beat the women. Now if they need to clear themselves of any guilt in future they should go with video cameras like in the west so that the truth will be known. Moreover this will put pressure on the police to obey the law and rules while making arrests.

Shashi, Surthakal, At this juncture, Karnataka needs human being like you. India is a secular country and the saffron brigades wants to build a “Hindu Nation” and the price is minorities’ lives. India’s secular credentials are intact because of Hindus like you living in India.

Dear Prashanth, You say that its the habit of people to blame police and BJP government. How can one blame them when everything is alright! People are living so very happily in Dakshina Kannada district after the BJP government came to rule! There has never been any conflict between communities! Police were very impartial that they always received complaints from Hindus only. hindu right wing organisations are so impartial about violence that they think why only men, why they cant physically handle women too in public! My dear Prashanth, what is the real issue you are speaking about?! Being a Hindu I will say that I DO NOT want the kind of Hindu Rashtra that BJP is building for us! and I believe there are a number of Hindus with me too...

Its all tricks to get attention from real issue...Dear police do your duty no need to listen to all the guys commented here.According to law if anybody disturbs in police operation then they can be arrested.that didnt happen here. and the guy knew if police is looking after him (as they came in the night) then why didnt he take precaution or surrendered?

Nowadays blaming police and BJP govt is new secular fashion of mangalore !!!!!!and the cut doesnt look like lati hit, it may be scratch because of nail....

I think this is not a big issue. Police went to arrest one culprit, woman from her family objected for this and police done their duty by dispersing them. Its a normal procedure. Police would have done same to the Hindu or Christian ladies.

Mr.George Belman, I have three points to make clear to you 1) It is because of the BAD behaviour by the Police that nobody respects them today. I would like to ask you..Who is to blame for this? the commom people or the Police themself?. The whole country will respect them if they change their attitude and do justice the right way. 2) Regarding the Police in Saudi they are far better than in India. Yes, they are a bit demanding at times that is because it is not a free country like India. It is still under the Kings Rule. 3) About the incident you saw gulf police beating the people. How many times we don't see that in India? Do you mean to say that this did not or will never happen in India?

It is a  few cases that  come out to the media. Thanks daijiworld for publishing such indecent behaviour of police. Most of the time Mangalore media does not publish any such crime. We should congragulate the ladies for coming out in the open. Those police personnel should be suspended and interrogated immediately.

When I was on holiday last year in Mangalore one day some police from Kulshekar police station accompanied by some Goondas from local organization came by car and jeep infront of a respected muslim family house and tried to enter the house to arrest a muslim blaming he had assaulted a housemaid.

When neighbours questioned Police for bringing goondas along with them then they went back. After this incident I had strong opinion that the Police department is filled with some 'Dal' goondas. God only has to save minorities.

Recent incidents like pub attack womens rights commision came form delhi and she submit the report in favour of karnataka government , this will be continued till the ruling  BJP remain in power.

Thank you all - especially those from Middle East - who responded to my comments. I standby my comment. I don't know where it was in Gulf - but I've seen footage of Indian labourers being beaten mercilessly by police and immigration staff - their only crime was demanding better working condition. Why does your attitude change the moment you land in Bajpe and start fighting with airline staff, customs, police of our country? I agree police may not be behaving professionally, but at the same time how many of us treat them with respect?

Mr. George Belman, Mangalore - What you are commenting is wrong, here in Gulf, Police not using any bad words & not even torturing. If they came to arrest anybody first they are giving shake hand & asking how are you gentleman, we came to arrest you, please come & co operate with us.

Here Police are keeping good relationship with the public. Actually gulf police is the model for POLICE. Our police should learn from them. Police = (P-Polite, O-Obedient, L-Loyal, I-Intelligent, C-Courage, E-Efficient) Our Police= (P-Power Mad, O-Official Criminal, I-Illegal, C-Corrupt, E-Encounter Specialist)

This is one more criminal act on minorities by those responsible to protect the public. A through investigation should be done and if found guilty the all police officers involved in the this crime should be permanently suspended from their duty. However, what more we can expect from a law less state.
