Mangalore, Mar 12:
The district administration on Thursday March 12 started to remove all religious and political advertisements, hoardings, banners, buntings, posters, flags, and stickers, from public places in the district as a step towards enforcing the model code of conduct for the general elections.

The drive was carried out by the district administration following directions received from the Election Commission. The personnel of the Mangalore City Corporation (MCC) removed all the banners, buntings, and flags of the ‘Hindu Samajotsava’ to be held in the city on Sunday March 15.

These were put up by the Dharma Raksha Vedike after receiving an order from the deputy commissioner (DC) V Ponnuraj.

The district administration has formed teams to remove such displays from public places.

The Election Commission officials in the district will book cases against those who violate the laws. The cases will be booked under provisions in the Karnataka Open Places (Prevention of Disfigurement) Act 1981.

Such displays on public transport vehicles are also prohibited as per the code of conduct. But the restrictions do not apply to advertisements on private vehicles with white number plates.

Violators of this will be booked under provisions in Rule 127 of the Karnataka Motor Vehicle Rules.

It can be recalled that banners and a makeshift entrance put up by an organization on account of Milad-un-Nabi on Tuesday March 10, were removed by the MCC.

Well one Mr. Punnuraj. Only permanent advertising signboards should be allowed, no banners and buntings as these pollute the city visually. And no banners of religious hatred and intolerance or fanatcism should be allowed. And all hoardings should have a legal permission from district commissioner, municipality and there should a fee so that the departments can raise revenues. Again well done administration.

I agree with Mr. Govinda Bhat Udupi. Vayu Sena, Vanara Sena are under patent! There is no meaning for " Aahara, Vichara & Samskara" today. We should have to organize a real Hindu Utsava and it should be a model for other community people.

again sorry for those who erected the hoardings with hard work without any knowledge of present administration. there should be permanent guidelines for all the organisations regarding the erection of hoardings n advertisements, people can't just call Mangalore as talibanisation with these silly acts or unwanted gimmick i think people are just taking anger or revenge on what they think is right, be fair and sincere, its a business for sign writers funded by political parties or sponsors you can call. Don't finger point Hindus or Christians or others every move has its own benefit as the saying even friendship have some motive behind it be cool, face the present, be smart n cool. thanks take it easy we live short life enjoy the most. don't take these gimmicks as serious, its all part of life

Govind Bhat, Udupi, you said it right! All these guys are out there for quick money! It is an idea for quick money. By now too many organisations offering so many vote of theirs! If people have brains they cannot gurantee others' votes!! When you do not have a profession, if you want to dream big, this is the only way!! Culture, development, service in the name of God.... the Panga goes on! Educated & employed have no time for these. Strict law and order may eliminate some of them.

dharma raksha vedike, hindu jagrana vedike, hindu morcha, santha vedieke,, what is is this? from where day-by-day these vedikes are mushrooming? If they really care for hindu religion and culture, why can't they unite together under one banner? let them show us what is the unity before preaching unity to the hindus in individual identities. To be frank the main brain behind formation of such vedikes are to make some fast bucks. Beware of such octopus and cultureless vultures.

Good work by the district admin. Why can't the authorities book cases against the persons or organisations which erect hoardings/ flags/ banners without permission? Or else, why can't authorities levy a heavy fine on such hoardings for spoiling the beauty of the city throughout the year?
