Udupi: Kudubipadav Land Acquisition Dispute - Pejawar Swamiji to Undertake Fast

Daijiworld Media Network - Udupi (SP)

Udupi, Apr 29: Pejawar Mutt Swamiji Sri Vishweshateertha has urged the concerned to hold the proposed Brahmakalashotsav of the Daivastanas built in Kudubipadav of Permude village, only after the dispute between the factions is sorted out by holding a dialogue between the two opposing parties. It may be recalled, that some quarters have been charging the government with forcibly acquiring the agricultural lands belonging to the Kudubi community farmers in Kudubipadav for the Special Economic Zone forcibly and without paying suitable compensation to them. There have also been allegations that the Brahmakalashotsav of the newly built Daivstana for the displaced demigods is being held on April 30 without extending invitation to the head of the lineage that traditionally held the right to hold religious programmes here.

A longstanding feud between Karnataka Industrial Area Development Board and Mangalore Special Economic Zone on the one hand and the farmers of Kudubipadav represented by a committee formed to protect their rights on the other, is on. Some of the farmers had complained that the land was acquired in violation of certain legal requirements and that the compensation amount had not yet been paid to them. The dispute is in the high court.

A complaint on certain charges has also been filed with the Lokayukta. "It is now learnt that the Brahmakalashotsav will be held on April 30. My sincere opinion is that a proper inquiry should be conducted on the allegation of injustice to farmers. The function should be suspended for the present. The truth should come out clearly, instead of allowing it to be shrouded in speculations," the Swamiji opined.

"In case the organizers decide to go ahead with the proposed Brahmakalashotsav, I will observe a day's fast from the afternoon of April 30 till the afternoon next day, during which period I will not consume anything including water," the Swamiji said in a press release.

None of you guys commenting here are aware of the plight of farmers who were cheated. Remeber the story of KIADB official who pocketed 74 lakhs! (Check in archieves of Daiji)He was caught! but how many are roaming out there in their new scorpios. It is great of swamiji to draw the attention of media and public to forgotten issue. Hope his fast will open the doors of justice for poor Kudubis.
