Daijiworld Media Network - Bangalore (SP)

Bangalore, May 2: The bench clerk accused of setting fire to some papers and furniture in Chief Magsitrate Court on Nrupatunga Road here and arrested by the police for this act, is in for fresh trouble.  The man was arrested by the Ulsoor police in the city. But, after the High Court vigilance booked him, the Lokayukta conducted a raid on his house on Friday May 1.

Reportedly, the clerk collected lesser amount of fine for road rule violations than what was mentioned in the challans, by accepting bribe from the offenders. After one of the offenders lodged a complaint, he developed cold feet. Fearing that his acts would come out once the investigators started their work, he reportedly tried to set fire to all the related documents by coming to the court premises on a holiday.

The Lokayukta officials however, did not come across any gold or cash at his residence. But they found that he was in possession of two sites in the city. It is estimated that the site he owns in Judicial Lay Out in the city is worth about Rs 1.5 crore.

Lokayukta police are investigating.
