Udupi, May 6: A programme titled 'Belaku Beragu' was held in the premises of Yakshgana Kalaranga Institution of Udupi on Tuesday May 5.

Delivering a lecture on the subject, ‘my experience in literary field,’ veteran litterateur Manorama M Bhat said that short stories are socially relevant as compared to the novels, as they normally are equipped with the unique quality of social insight.

“My life experiences have been the life and blood of my literature. My father being a Sanskrit scholar, introduced to me the Indian heritage of stories and inspired me to get into the field”, she explained.

“The sparrow which nested at my house was the subject of my first story. M B Singh of ‘Sudha’ weekly who published all my initial stories and the Akashvani that broadcast my radio plays, encouraged me to continue with literary field,” she added.

It is sad to see the violence, communalism and superstitions that have spread in the society of today. The religious harmony and mutual co-existence our ancestors practiced, are disappearing now, she regretted.

Jayadev Moleyar, programme organizer, welcomed the gathering. Sangeetha Johnson proposed vote of thanks.

Muralidhar Upadhyaya, Raghava Nambiar, Kugo, Uppangala Ram Bhat, Shantaram Somayaji and Abdulla, Beary Academy president were present on the occasion.
