Udupi: YCS deanery level ‘Yuva Sambrambh 2019’ held at St Lawrence parish Moodubelle

Udupi, Aug 26: The deanery level YCS ‘Yuva Sambrambh 2019’ was held at St Lawrence parish community hall on Sunday August 25. YCS members from nine parishes including the deanery here participated.

Fr Clement Mascarenahs, parish priest of St Lawrence Church, Moodubelle was chief guest for ‘Yuva Sambrambh 2019’. Other dignitaries on the dais included: Fr Stephen Fernandes- Director of YCS Udupi deanery; Fr Jithesh Castelino- Assistant parish priest, St Lawrence Church, Moodubelle; Vincent Fernandes- Vice president, parish pastoral council; Latha D’Mello- Secretary; Fr Kiran Nazareth Don Bosco- Resource person, Swedel Pinto- YCS president, Udupi diocese; Tejas Kumar- YCS president, Udupi deanery and Joel Sequeira- Animator, YCS Udupi deanery.

Following the prayer song by the members of Moodubelle YCS, Glen Rebello- President of YCS Moodubelle Unit welcomed the guests.



The ‘Yuva Sambrambh 2019’ was formally inaugurated by Fr Clement Mascarenhas along with other dignitaries by pouring water on the plant.

In his message, Fr Clement Mascarenhas appealed to the YCS members to look forward to success in life with optimism and to get rid of depression and thoughts of failure. Quoting examples from the lives of Thomas Alva Edison, Socrates and Abraham Lincoln, Fr Clement stressed on the need to learn from failures and achieve success through determination and hard work.

Fr Stephen Fernandes gave away plants to Fr Clement Mascarenhas, Vincent Fernandes and Latha D’Mello as mementos.

Joyce Fernandes introduced Fr Clement Mascarenhas, Melisa D’Souza introduced Fr Kiran Nazareth and Wyona Lobo compered the programme.

Fr Kiran Nazareth spoke on 'Youth Students for a Youthful Life and Self Identification'.

Fr Kiran Nazareth introduced the session on ‘Self Identity’ with group activity. The youth made collages and explained their significant aspects. Taking examples from this activity, Fr Kiran explained the importance of self identity. He highlighted ways by which one loses his or her self identity such as influence of media, culture, personal experience, etc. Finally, he emphasized on the fact that everyone should know oneself and one should not lose himself or herself and adopt popular culture that is harmful to oneself.

Following the interesting and useful session by Fr Kiran Nazareth, all the YCS members participated in a eucharistic celebration concelebrated by Fr Jithesh Castelino and Fr Stephen Fernandes.

In his homily, Fr Jithesh stressed on the fact that while the modern youth have to live in reality, they should ‘observe, judge and act’. He impressed upon the youth to be active and develop all their potentials.

Addressing the youth at the valedictory function, Fr Valerian Mendonca, parish priest of Mother of Sorrows Church, Udupi and dean of Udupi Varado said that youth are the future of the church. They should nurture their talents and make use of the opportunities and participate in various activities.

On this occasion, Fr Vijay D’Souza who was YCS deanery director for two years was felicitated.

Fr Wilson D’Souza, parish priest of Kuntalnagar, Fr Royson Fernandes, editor of ’Uzwaad’, Fr Ronson, parish priest of Katapadi and Fr Johnson, principal of St Mary’s School, Udupi paid a visit during the programme at different times.

Fr Stephen Fernandes, YCS director of Udupi deanery thanked all the YCS units of the Udupi deanery, parish and assistant parish priests and animators for their participation and support toward YCS Yuva Sambrambh 2019.

Competitions in verse (marriage songs) and street play were conducted wherein all the YCS units of the Udupi deanery participated. The judges were: Fr Roshan D’Cunha, assistant parish priest of Shankerpura and Walston D’Sa from Shankarpura.

Prizes for the winners of the various competitions were distributed by Fr Valerian Mendonca.

1. Verse competition: First prize: YCS Moodubelle Unit; second prize: YCS Udupi unit and third prize: YCS Kuntalnagar unit

2. Street play competition: First prize: Udupi; second prize: Moodubelle and third prize: Kalmady

3. Overall championship was shared by Moodubelle and Udupi units

The valedictory function was attended by Fr Valerian Mendonca, Fr Anil D’Souza, parish priest of Perampalli, Fr Jithesh Castelino, Fr Vijay D’Souza, Fr Stephen Fernandes, Monica D’Souza, coordinator of 18 commissions of Moodubelle, Tejas, president of YCS Udupi deanery, Joel Sequeira, animator of Udupi deanery YCS, Glen Rebello and YCS president Moodubelle.

Tejas Kumaar, welcomed the guests, Renisha Pinto, scretary YCS Udupi deanery proposed the vote of thanks and Roshni Alva of Kuntalnagar compered the programme.

The YCS Yuva Sambrambh 2019 was organized by YCS unit of Moodubelle under the patronage of Fr Clement Mascarenhas and under the direction of Fr Jithesh Castelino and cooperation of Dr Judith Lobo and Shalini Lobo, animators of YCS Moodubelle unit.
