Udupi: Pay maximum compensation for houses damaged in floods – MP Shobha Karandlaje

Udupi, Aug 27: MP Shobha Karandlaje asked to pay maximum compensation for houses which are damaged in recent floods. She was speaking after presiding over a meeting held to discuss destruction in recent rains in the district on Monday, August 26.

Responding to the information provided by officials that four houses in the district are completely damaged, she said the houses that are partially damaged are highest. “The damages should be reviewed, the opinion of the residents should be obtained and highest compensation should be paid to the victims,” she said.



The officials said that cultivation in 325 hectares land is destroyed and farm produce in 11.26 acres is damaged causing a loss of Rs 14.64 lac. The MP asked to prepare and submit a suitable plan to prevent sea erosion. She asked to remove silt in Baje dam to prevent scarcity of water next year.

“Epidemics such as dengue and malaria are increasing due to stagnant water during floods. The health department should wake up and work towards it. Take the help of local nursing students for Larva survey work,” said DC Jagadish.

District panchayat president Dinaker Babu, MLA Raghupathi Bhat, district panchayat vice president Sheela K Shetty, DC G Jagadish, SP Nisha James, additional DC Vidya Kumari and other district level officials were present.
