Puttur: Aged man jumps into river - Saved by locals

Puttur, Aug 28: In an incident which happened at Uppinangady on the evening of Tuesday August 27, an old man tried to end his life by jumping into River Netravati. Some local youth, who jumped into action, saved him and handed the man over to the local police.

The person who tried to kill himself happened to be Muhammed Salih, resident of Varkala Chilakkur in Kerala. He reportedly had run away from his native place a few month back. He was working in a local hotel here. On Tuesday evening, he is said to have tied a boulder to his neck before walking through the path that leads into the river, and then jumped into the river.

Some locals saw him jumping into the river. Immediately, locals Hanif Manimar, Abdurrahman Kadavinabagilu, and Ashraf Andethadka, jumped into the river and saved the man. After bringing him to the riverbank, he was handed over to the police, it is gathered.
