Bengaluru, Aug 28: Poor maintenance of roads and unscientific repair of potholes will not be taken lightly anymore. The BBMP imposed penalties on 10 jurisdictional engineers for failing to maintain roads in their concerned jurisdictions.

The BBMP imposed Rs 2,000 as fine per person. Prior to imposing the penalty, the BBMP had warned that if engineers fail to close potholes, they will be penalised Rs 1000 per pothole.

At the BBMP council meet on Tuesday, outgoing BBMP commissioner N Manjunath Prasad said that Rs 12 crore had been allocated for filling up potholes in major roads. He acknowledged that the rainy season created many new potholes and assured contractors in respective wards are directed to fill them periodically.

Prasad also spoke on the TenderSURE project. “The construction work of 12 roads, worth Rs 200 crore started under phase one in 2012. 85 per cent work is completed. The construction of roads in phase 2, which started in 2016, is still going on,” he said.

With regard to the white-topping project, he said 40 km of the 93 km has been completed. However, work under second phase is put on hold, as per directions by state government.
