Bengaluru, Aug 29: To monitor littering around the city, the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP), has appointed over 120 retired army marshals.
According to the BBMP, as per schedule the marshals will be trained and deployed within the first week of September. The ex-army men will be deployed to East, West and South zones of the BBMP. Over Rs 8.56 crore will be spent yearly for the salary of the personnel.
The proposal of the 'marshal programme' was approved by the government in May 2019.
The BBMP will train the marshals over penalising the violators. BBMP will consider revising Karnataka Municipal Council (KMC) Act to give certain authority to the marshals so that they can penalize the public for violation. To ensure immediate action is taken, marshals will be given GPS-enabled devices to issue penalty receipts on the spot.
