Udupi: Late Manjunath Udyavar remembered

Udupi, Aug 31: “Late Manjunath Udyavar had helped and extended moral support to Oscar Fernandes in his work. Manju lived even after death. He was oasis for people like me who disliked politicians,” said Udupi church priest Fr William Martis, friend of late Manjunath Udyavar. He presiding over the seventh anniversary in remembrance of Manjunath Udyavar held by Service and Cultural forum of Udyavar Friends Circle.

“Manjunath had social concern. He worked sincerely in social life and was close assistant to Oscar Fernandes,” he said.

Former president of Udupi district panchayat S Raju Poojary, guest of honor said that Manjanna united society. “His selfless life is a model for current youth. We need his personality when we see politicians with suspicions these days. I am proud to say that he was the one who moulded my social life. The work of remembering him and introducing him to future generation is commendable,” he said.

Famous advocate, Shamala Bhandary, another guest said that Manjunath had a strong desire to make Udyavar a model village. “He indulged in organizing Congress party. He was a good guide. An auditorium should be constructed in his name and let out for programmes to ordinary people at reasonable rates,” she said.

Udyavar gram panchayat president Sugandi Shekar was present. President of the organization, Tilakraj Salian welcomed the gathering. Director Udyavar Nagesh Kumar presented an introduction. Chief secretary Girish Guddeyangadi rendered the vote of thanks. Former president Anoop Kumar compered the programme.

A mono act ‘Radha’ directed by Sripad Bhat and written by Sudha Adukala was presented as part of the cultural programme.
