Yadagiri: Negligence of officers - Deluge victims not getting compensation

Daijiworld Media Network - Yadagiri (MS)

Yadagiri, Sep 3: North Karnataka is devastated due to the recent floods. The government and the people of other parts of the state have come forward to help the victims of the natural calamity. Even the government has stressed for the immediate disbursement of relief to the affected people. However, it is heard that the money is not reaching the needy because of the negligence of the officers who are dealing with this relief operation.

Yakshachinti, Gaudooru, Channuru and Kolluru villages of Vadagera and Shahapura taluks of Yadagiri district were severely affected during the recent deluge. The bridge of Jumalapura Tanda of Nilakantarayana Gaddi of Hunasagi taluk was washed away due to the flood. However, the victims have not yet received the compensation due to the negligence of the officers.

According to the Yadagiri district administration compensation is distributed to 339 families. But this is only on record and in reality the relief funds have not reached the actual victims. On checking it is found that, due to the oversight of the officer concerned, husband's name is written in place of wives, someone else's name is written on the cheque meant for some other person. Though the cheques are given, they are marred with errors. The victims are worried that they will not get the cash, even if they have got the cheque.

Due to the shoddy work of Yakshachinti village accountant Praveen and Vadagera tahsildar Santhosh Rani, the difficulties faced by the affected victims have increased. They have entered the names of the victims wrongly. Though the survey was done on time, the cheques issued have many errors on them. The compensation has become a mirage for more than 100 families of Yakshachinti village. In addition, there are allegations that some of the actual victims are not considered for compensation.

The compensation amount of Rs 10,000 will be distributed in two instalments. Rs 3,800 through cheque and rest of the amount will be directly credited to the account of the victims. As Vadagera is a new taluk, the tahsildar does not have the treasury signing authority. So for every compensation, the matter needs to be brought to the notice of Shahapura officials. Because of all these reasons, the distribution of compensation of Yakshachinti village is getting delayed.
