Mangalore, Jul 5: Vamanjoor Rohi alias Vamanjoor Rohidas Shetty, a notorious rowdy, who was facing a trail in Nagesh Poojary murder case and appealed against life imprisonment in this connection to high court was murdered at Jyotinagar, Vamanjoor here in the wee hours of Sunday July 5. Vamanjoor Rohi faced life threat for sometime now from his rival gangs.

Police suspect that a gang of five members, who got a whiff of him staying at one of his relatives’ house, ‘Sripath’ behind Durgaparameshwari Temple here entered into the house breaking open the latch of the front door. While three entered the house and murdered sleeping Rohi using a sword, two of them waited outside the house.

Facing a life threat, Rohi was not spending the night in his house, but would stay in the houses of his relatives or friends in turns. The ladies in the house he was murdered said that though they were sleeping in the hall outside, they were unaware when the murderers broke open the door and gained entry into the bedroom where Rohi was sleeping.

Rohi has suffered grievous injuries to stomach and hands as it is learnt that he escaped the first assault on his neck. Slain Rohi’s body was brought to City Hospital here in the morning.

He was also suspected to be behind the murder of Candle Santhu and had also charges of breaking the jail among others against him. It can be recalled here that in February, Rohi in a press meet had cleared the air that he was not behind the murder of Santosh Badkatabail alias Candle Santhu from Polali following allegations by Candle Santhu’s family that he was behind Santhu’s murder.

He had also stated that since a year and half he had stayed away from criminal activities and was into real estate business with rivalry between Barke gang and Ballalbagh gang being a closed chapter.

When rowdy Pandu Pai was found murdered in the city, recently the needle of suspicion first pointed at Rohi, but he was soon exonerated from charges when the real murderers were caught.

Friends like many of us know Mangalore/Udupi/Manipal was supposed to be the heart for educating the youth of our generation. But we can also see that some of our kids are getting away into another direction following criminal activities which are led by some antisocial elements.what do they get in return?A little fame and money to threaten the weaker sections and woo the opposite sex.

I dont think that all of our youth are illiterate who carry on with these acts. They too may be having a family ,parents, brothers ,sisters or children.Dont these people tell them that what they are doing is wrong, right in the begining of these acts. Hope their faith gives them some sense to lead a better life than be a pain or trouble to their own family.why bloodshed?

Mangalorean who are in Mangalore do not bother for these news. You ask any one in Mangalore, they don''t know who Rohi is, but you ask any Mangalorean in Middle East they know who Rohi is because they get all the news from TV/newspaper/websites.

Karnataka should follow the example of Nithish for converting a virtually lawless Bihar into a safer place. It is unfortunate that Mangalore is turning to a lawless city. It is the duty of state government to take immediate measures to instill confidence amongst citizens. We are sick of reading news about Rowdy''s Murder, Lawyer''s Murder. Ram sene''s & Bajrang Dal''s attack on Minorities, Cattle trucks etc.

It is surprising that such known hard core criminal’s get bail so easily. However, there is no permanent escape for such criminals eventually they either get packed to jail or hell. Even though this is a sad event for his immediate family I can only say good riddance.

For one’s selfish end, it is easy to breed rowdies and patronize them. It won’t take much time to polarize the environment so as to divide communities. Those who have used him might have thrown him out during his bad time including the political leaders.

I personally felt very sad when I looking at the photo of Rohitas Shetty smart young lad. If he had used his caliber and strength for constructive purpose he would have lived longer. Totally agree with Mr. Sandip Kumar, Mangalore,Bangalore and Shraawan Shetty, mangalore concern about Mangalore.

Request mass media to take constructive role in educating the young ones to live and think positive. Enemies breeds enemies and love for others builds better society. Pray to Almighty let Rohit Shetty’s murder be the last murder in our Mangalore coastal land.

First of all sorry to hear this news, sympathy to his family members. The style which he had murdered others in the same "style" he also lost his life, what a fate. This is a regular practice in Mangalore since years, for some it might be new, so nothing to worry for a common man.

But even then people will not stop this even though they know one or the other day they will be caught by this, it is like people taking "BRIBE" or "COMMISSION" or "ROBBERY", will this ever stop ???? mainly which is in Gulf region.

As the city grows, values diminish, gives raise to cometition, criminal activities and sins. Its the fall out of fast pace of development and all major cities are not immune to this menance. We should reform police force and inteligence to deal with such types of situation before the crime is committed. Criminals move into developing cities in search of greenter pasture and fast buck. Need of the hour is decriminalisation of our political system and civic system.

Sandeep I agree with you. Lot of families whom I know are shifting to Bangalore and other places. Mangalore is no safer to live due to rowdies, polluted politics and communal riot! When people would realize the fact that is all deeds are well scripted by the political groups for power. When we would breathe the fresh air without any anxiety?

Yes, A MAN LIVES BY A SWORD DIES BY A SWORD, Now a days there is no peace in managalore, only improvement in managlore is crimes and some new tall buildings, colleges nothing else...people need fast money & easy life, so youngsters go for crimes to make money. I think living outside mangalore city or Banaglore, Bombay is safe and very good.

Eventhough he is a notoious criminal, murder is not an answer. The law of this nation should be respected, law must take it''s own action. Sandeep is right. Peace loving Mangaloreans are leaving Mangalore and the Criminals from other parts are coming to Mangalore.
