Bangalore, Jul 16: In spite of stiff opposition of the local people, experts and environmentalists alike about the likely ill-affects the diversion of Netravati river water to the plains of the state might have on the lives of the people of the district as well as ecology, the state government is serious about implementing it.

In reply to a question raised by S M Anand, MLc, at the legislative council on Wednesday July 15, water resources minister Basavaraj Bommai said that the survey for the project has already been undertaken and that the government contemplates supplying of water to the plains by diverting water from Netravati River and its tributaries to the thirsty plains. A white paper on this project will be released soon. A sum of Rs 6.37 crore has been spent for the survey. The government wants to reach as many people as possible through the Netravati and Bhadra river projects, he stated.
