Bengaluru, Sep 25: The state high court, on Tuesday, September 24, quashed the appointment of Prof K R Venugopal as the vice-chancellor of Bangalore University. His appointment was mired in controversy as he was facing allegations like fake caste and income certificates, irregularities and some serious allegations.

The single-judge bench of the high court presided by Justice Alok Aradhe which heard a petition filed by Prof Sangamesh Patil, passed this order. The bench also said that the state governor, who happens to be the chancellor of the university, had not obtained approval of the government for the appointment of Prof Venugopal. Therefore it said that his appointment is not valid. It, therefore, concluded that the order dated June 12, 2018, issued by the governor appointing Venugopal as Bangalore University vice-chancellor stands annulled.
