Bengaluru, Sep 24: Former CM and JD (S) leader H D Kumaraswamy says that there will be a new political twist after the results of by-elections October 24.

Karnataka is going for by-polls in the 15 out of the 17 constituencies, the MLAs of which are disqualified by the former speaker of the assembly. JD (S) is going to field candidates in all the constituencies as per the information given by Kumaraswamy. He also said the selection process of candidates will be finalized in the next two days. The party is fielding mostly local party workers.

Kumaraswamy was speaking to the reporters in Mysuru. He further said, "These elections are equally important for both the government and the opposition parties. We have to wait for some new political drama to take place after the by-poll results."

Though JD (S) allied with its former coalition partner Congress in the recent Lok Sabha elections, this time around they have decided to go solo. The by-polls will be held on October 21 and the results will be declared on October 24.

JD (S) supremo and former PM Deve Gowda, Kumaraswamy and Siddaramaiah have time and again stressed that the state is going to go for the midterm elections, which will turn the tide against the ruling BJP. Winning as many seats as possible is vital for BJP to stay in power in the state.

BJP, who is in power in the state now has to win a minimum of six out of the 15 seats in the by-poll to maintain majority in the assembly. The actual strength of the assembly is 225 and the halfway mark is 113. Now BJP has 105 with the help of one independent candidate. Congress has 66 and JD (S) had 34 MLAs.

Only time will tell whether Kumaraswamy's prediction of a new twist in the political scene of Karnataka will become true or not.
