Bangalore: High Court Stays KMF Election

Daijiworld Media Network - Bangalore (SP)

Bangalore, Jul 18: On Friday July 17, the state High Court stayed the election process to the governing council of Karnataka Milk Federation(KMF). The order has come at a time when the tug-of-war between the ruling  BJP and the opposition JDS was destined to reach a flashpoint, with the BJP almost clinching stronghold on the body that was under the monopoly of H D Revanna for about 15 years.

The stay was granted, while admitting a writ petition moved by Harish, a member of Mandya District Milk Producers’ Union and some others, questioning the justifiability of of the government’s move in nominating directors to KMF and district milk producers unions, even before the election is held for the governing council of the state body.

Justice Ram Mohan Reddy, who admitted the writ petition for hearing, stayed the process of not only the election to KMF but also of nominating directors to milk producers unions. The hearing stands posted to July 21.

If already the nominations of directors have been completed by the government to the district milk producers unions and the election processes there have been concluded, no changes can be effected at this juncture. The stay operates in case of those unions where election process and nomination of directors have not been concluded.

In the case of most of the district milk unions, the election process has been completed. KMF election and nomination of directors is pending.

The advocates representing the government said, the government has since postponed the date from July 20 fixed earlier for KMF election and that it will now move to get the stay vacated.
