Udupi: Less Rain, Two Deaths in District

Udupi, Jul 23: Even though the rains have receded since the last couple of days, two rain-related deaths were reported.

Shyamala (21), a resident of Hithlu House in Badakere village in Kundapur taluk died due to lightning while grazing the cattle on July 21. A complaint has been received by Byndoor police station in this district.

Bacchu Poojary (65) from Kodi Kanyana village drowned in River Sita on Wednesday July 22. His body was found by the side of the estuary at Kodi Kanyana. A case of unnatural death was filed in Kota police station in this regard.

Kollur recorded seven cms of rain while most of the other places in the twin-districts got one to two cms. The power sector holds high hopes, with catchment areas of Linganamakki Reservoir in Shimoga district getting good rains. Lingamakki reservoir touched 1,800 ft mark. The reservoir had recorded a level of 1,759.45 ft on this day, last year. KRS reservoir in Mandya district too touched 123.90 ft as against the maximum level of 124.80 ft.
