Udupi: Artiste Gangubai Comes Alive at Malpe Beach

Udupi, Jul 25: ‘Unforgettable days’ at Malpe beach here was a true tribute to renowned Hindustani vocalist Gangubai Hanagal with the artist coming alive through sand sculpture on Friday July 24 evening.



As many as 7 students of Jangama Math Chitrakala Vidyalaya under the guidance of retired principal K L Bhat brought alive the legendary singer to life albeit through sand art after working at it for over seven hours. The theme ‘Unforgettable days’ also included soldiers fighting the Kargil War commemorating the tenth anniversary of the war and also Naga sculpture to mark the Nagara Panchami to be celebrated on Sunday July 26.

The artists, Dhanraj Padubidri, Mahesh Chendkala, Raghavendra Amin, Rajendra Hallihole, Ramesh Akkihole, Satish Heroor and Trishul Poojary began creating the sculpture at 10.00 am and completed it around 5.00 pm. Amin, who led the team, told presspersons that the art work was named Unforgettable days as though Gangubai was no longer in our midst, she is unforgettable for she will live with us through her music.
