DA raised to 17%, to benefit 50 lakh govt employees

New Delhi, Oct 9 (IANS): Adding to the festive cheer for over 1 crore government employees and pensioners, the Union Cabinet on Wednesday approved a 5 per cent hike in dearness allowance (DA) raising it to 17 per cent.

Addressing the media after the cabinet meeting, Union Minister for Information and Broadcasting Prakash Javadekar said that around 50 lakh central government employees and 62 lakh pensioners would benefit from the decision.

Javadekar noted that previously DA had been raised by 2-3 per cent but this time it has been raised by 5 per cent in one go.

"This is a Diwali gift to government employees," Javadekar said.

The raise in DA would cost the government Rs 16,000 crore in its wage bill and the increased DA would be effective from July 2019.

But govt doesn't have money for flood victims and farmer loans. Still BJP is stealing money from RBI reserve funds and interim dividends. No word on total amount of black money collected just before Demonitisation and money collected by IT raid on opposition accounts. But lavish DA on its own employees which is top priority for BJP. One way to convert its own black money stock pile to white.
