Beyonce, Lady Gaga Lead Nominations for MTV Video Awards

Los Angeles, Aug 5: MTV announced Tuesday the nominees for its 2009 Video Music Awards with singers Beyonce and Lady Gaga leading the field with nine nominations each.

Britney Spears continued her comeback trail with seven nominations, ahead of Kanye West, Eminem and Coldplay with four each, Green Day with three and Jay-Z with two.

Competing for Video of the Year are Beyonce with "Single Ladies (Put a Ring On It)", Lady Gaga with "Poker Face", Eminem with "We Made You", Kanye West with "Love Lockdown", and Britney Spears with "Womanizer".

The nominees for Best New Artist are Lady Gaga, Drake, Justin Benoliel 3OH!3, Kid Cudi and Asher Roth.

The Best Male Video nominees include Eminem for "We Made You", Kanye West for "Love Lockdown", Jay-Z for "D.O.A. - Death of Auto-Tune", T.I. Featuring Rihanna for "Live Your Life", and Ne-Yo for "Miss Independent". The Best Female Video nominees are Katy Perry ("Hot n Cold"), Beyonce ("Single Ladies (Put a Ring On It)"), Kelly Clarkson ("My Life Would Suck Without You") and Lady Gaga for "Poker Face".

The awards show will be hosted by Russell Brand and will be broadcast live from New York City Sep 13.
