Daijiworld Media Network - Mangalore (SP)

Mangalore, Aug 7: During the last 24 hours, some places in the state’s coast received rains. However the rains were not heavy. Highest rain in the state was recorded in Karwar, at 4 cms. Many of the places in the twin-districts remained dry for most part of the day.

Dharmastala and Puttur received two cms of rain while the city apart from Kundapur and Madikeri got only one cm of rain. The meteorological department has predicted that some places in the coast, apart from southern and northern hinterlands might get some rains in the next 24 hours.

The officials have decided to make the best use of the breather provided by the monsoon rains. Several stretches of the national highway 17 and state and district highways are undergoing emergency repair works. At many places, teams took up the task of closing the pot holes on these roads by using cold tar and wet mix macadam. Within the city and Udupi municipal limits too, road repair works are going on.
