Mangaluru, Jan 11: “Modi government cannot drive people from here away by implementing CAA that the people did not ask for or wanted. We respected the court when the Babri Masjid verdict was out. But nobody is prepared to accept the anti-people Act brought by Modi. It is disastrous for our country,” said advocate and social activist Sudhir Kumar Maroli.

He was speaking in the protest meeting held under the aegis of Pauratva Samrakshana Vedike Mallur at Badriyanagar grounds opposing Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA), National Registry of Citizens (NRC) and National Population Register (NPR).

Sunil Kumar said that repeated protests are being held against the cruel Act since December 19. “The campaign is portrayed as that by Muslims. Students are being misled. Hindus also have stood up against the cruel Act. There is no need to be disappointed because of his Act. We ourselves are real patriots. The part played by Muslims in uniting the country was huge. People who were affected by the recent murders of innocent men have not got justice yet. Modi government has set that aside and come to teach us,” he alleged.

Ramanath Rai said that India was known as the rich secular nation. “Section 144 was passed after giving approval for protests. Protesters were lathi charged. Investigations should be conducted into the firing which took place without obtaining permission. Truth should come out. Nehru had said that minority community gets in trouble if minority community gives importance to their religion and the county will face problem if the majority community is blinded by religion. We do not favour minorities. We do not campaign for Muslims but only ask to give them their rights. We should not be fundamentalists. False information is being spread for political gain. It is necessary to take action against it,” he said.

P V Mohan also spoke on the occasion.

Bappalike Masjid Khateeb Ahmed Nayeem Faizi, SSF’s Munir Ahmed Kamil Sakhafi, Rafiyuddin Kudroli, advocate B A Mohammed Hanif, SDPI district secretary Iqbal Bellare, DYFI district president B K Imtiaz and Nizamuddin were present. N I Mohammed welcomed.
