Bengaluru, Jan 15: State minister for housing V Somanna, said that the government has planned to set up a vigilance cell on the lines of Bescom vigilance cell, to stop misuse of housing scheme facilities by ineligible beneficiaries.

He was addressing a press conference in the city on Tuesday January 14.

Somanna noted that the government has been spending crores of rupees every year towards providing housing facilities for the poor. He expressed dismay at the fact that demand for housing has been rising with each passing year. "It appears that people who have already got house under government scheme are getting the same benefit again through wrong route. Therefore, the government plans to stop this wrong practice and see that the benefits of the government schemes reach only those who are eligible for the same. For this purpose, a vigilance squad will be formed under Rajiv Gandhi Housing Corporation. District level vigilance squads are also being thought of, he added.

He said that Aadhaar and ration cards will be linked with each other to stop wrong use of housing schemes. He felt that members of the same family getting benefits under the scheme repeatedy can be avoided through this method. He added that construction of 4.37 lac houses under the scheme is in progress and the housing corporation plans to distribute six lac homes by the end of this financial year.
