Belagavi, Jan 20: A gang of unidentified persons who forced their way into the residence of a taluk panchayat former member at Dodwad village in Bailahongla taluk in the district in the wee hours on Sunday January 19, slayed a man, his wife, and son when they were asleep, with sharp weapons before going back unnoticed.

An eerie silence has enveloped the house which was preparing to celebrate son's marriage on January 30. Those murdered in this incident happen to be Shivanand Basavanthappa Andanashetti (60), his second wife Shantavva (55), and her son Vinod.

Shivanand had initially married the daughter of his elder sister. After differences arose between the couple, the marriage failed. Shivanand then married Shantavva. The couple also had allowed Shantavva's son from her first marriage, Vinod, to live with them. Vinod's marriage was slated to be held with a girl from Dharwad on January 30.

The triple murder has shocked the village. The police suspect that the murder would have taken place on account of personal enmity. A case has been registered in Dodwad police station. District superintendent of police Laxman Nimbargi, said that a special investigation team has been formed to arrest the culprits.
