Mangaluru, Jan 21: Nirmala Dangwal (25), a student of National Institute of Technology (NIT) Warangal to take part in the sport tournament organized at NIT Karnataka (NITK) drowned in Arabian Sea near NITK on Monday January 20. Nirmala belonged to Uttarakhand state.
As many as 23 students who had participated in the tournament on behalf of NIT Warangal were about to return to their place. Before that, they went to the beach under the leadership of physical education teacher Raju Odela. During the period the students were having fun in the sea, a huge wave washed three students Nirmala, Meghana and Kanoj away. Other students supported by locals succeeded in bringing them back to the shore.
The condition of Nirmala was found to be very serious. She breathed her last when being taken to hospital, a report filed in Suratkal police station said.
