Mumbai, Jan 30: In a disastrous accident that took place between a car and a  stationary police jeep on the Eastern Express Highway near Ramabai Nagar in Ghatkopar on Wednesday killed a father-son duo from Antop hill and injured six other family members.

Sachin Damble (38), who was at the wheel, and his father Vishnu (62) died hours after they were admitted to Rajawadi Hospital. Sachin's son Vishwas (10) is critical in Sion Hospital ICU.

Sachin’s wife Subhangi (32), daughter Namrata (11), in-laws Amol Kankar and Nanda and a distant relative, Jayshree Pawar (6), have sustained minor injuries in the mishap. They are recovering in the general ward of Rajawadi Hospital.

Reportedly, the family were on road overnight which may have caused the son to fall asleep on the wheel and hit the stationery cop vehicle. Few cops who were outside the vehicle remained unhurt except one officer.

The Damble family had set out for Mumbai late on Tuesday. They halted at a Dhaba in Kasara for dinner. “Sachin possibly dozed off at the wheel, resulting in the accident,” senior inspector of Pant Nagar police station, Suhas Kamble, said. His blood sample has been sent for analysis.
