Mumbai, Feb 3: Four people were brought in for questioning by Kurar police in connection with the shooting incidents that took place at two Malad (east) shops on Saturday. The accused Uday Pathak is being held responsible for carrying out the deed from prison. Pathak has been incarcerated for quadruple murders in 2011. The owner of one of the two shops was targeted for extortion in 2015 at Pathak's command.

Around 1.30 pm on Saturday, a masked man walked into a medical store at Shivaji Nagar and fired a shot, shattering a glass cabinet. The impact caused a shard of glass to pierce one of the employee's hands. The shooter was on foot but may have had associates waiting on a bike some distance away. Shortly afterwards, the same shooter fired a round at Rokadia Traders. Nobody was reported to be hurt.

Sunil Singh, the owner of the medical store said, "This is the second time we have been targeted. In 2015, shooters had fired a round at an under-construction site in Shivaji Nagar, injuring a contractor in the abdomen. A chit flung at the site mentioned the names of four targets, which included ours."

Three people were arrested in the case and released on bail. Singh believes that Pathak is trying to instil fear among small business owners in the area with violence just to extort money. Pathak was booked for murder and attempt to commit murder. He was externed from the city limits more than 10 years ago.
