Kasargod, Feb 5: District superintendent of police here has warned those who resort to spreading of misinformation about Coronavirus through social websites and create a scare among the general public, of stern action.

He said that there are cases in which photographs of those who are suffering from either some other ailment or those who are healthy, are used to spread rumors that they are infected with the said disease. He said that such people will be tried under information technology act, Indian Penal Code and cell phones of such people would be confiscated.

"So far 2,239 persons have returned to Kerala from China. Out of them, 2,155 are being detained in their houses and close watch is kept on them. 84 people have been admitted into different hospitals, and blood samples of 140 have been sent to laboratory for testing. Out of them, reports have confirmed that 49 are not been infected.

A medical student from Kanhangad, kept in the isolation ward of Kasargod district government hospital at Kanhangad is continued to be treated.
